At "Hot for Teacher" curated by Alaina Gurdak. October 21- November 18, 2011. Howard Art Project. Boston, MA.
During the duration of the "Hot for Teacher" exhibition I used a small room in the Howard Art Project space to build canvases. The space was supplied with traditional tools and materials for building a canvas: wood, saws, clamps, hammers, nails, staple-gun, glue, gesso, and presumably- canvas. Visitors were encouraged to "play" with the materials (with or without me present) to create their own interpretations of the "painter's canvas." Here the notion of play was emphasized as an educational tool, encouraging an active exploration of new ideas within the context of painting.
